The San Fernando Valley Invitational Tournament made its debut in 2005 under the direction of Dick Dornan (Crespi HS Athletic Director) with the assistance from Kevin Kanemura (Head Coach Kennedy HS), and Tray Meeks (Head Coach Alemany HS).

The tournament consisted of 24 teams with 16 teams playing four games and 8 teams earning a fifth game.  The Championship Final Four, hosted by Crespi HS, consisted of Notre Dame, Oak Park, Chatsworth and Moorpark.  Notre Dame won the Kennedy Regional, Oak Park won the Crespi Regional, Chatsworth won the Alemany Regional and Moorpark earned the At-Large bid.

In the semi-finals, Notre Dame defeated Moorpark 71-53 while Oak Park beat Chatsworth 71-55.  In a thrilling championship game, Notre Dame narrowly beat Oak Park 48-47 in the last few seconds.  Notre Dame won the inaugural San Fernando Valley Invitational Tournament and continued to have an outstanding season finishing 18-11.  Notre Dame junior forward Pierce Brooks was named the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.  Oak Park had a great season as well and would eventually finish at 24-6.  In the third place game, Chatsworth easily defeated Moorpark 85-62.  Chatsworth would later finish 18-5.  In the consolation championship, Knight beat Quartz Hill, 56-54.

In the Slam Dunk Contest, Simi Valley’s T.J. Washington showed his dramatic flair and elegance as he knocked off several good competitors to win.  Alemany Head Coach Tray Meek was very emphatic in his voting as he made a strong push for T.J. to win!

In the 3-Point Shoot-out, Kennedy’s Robert Valentine lit up his own gym and captured the title so desperately sought after by his own coach, Kevin Kanemura.  Kanemura’s personal training of Valentine had finally paid off!
